The River Guide Colorado and Santa Elena Canyons is a guide for stunning multi-day float trips, often launching near Lajitas, through dramatic 1,500-foot cliffs, offering a mix of calm paddling and technical rapids (like the Class IV Rock Slide), historical context, geology and navigation for a challenging, but rewarding, adventure between the US & Mexico. Permits are required, and specific water flows (300-600 CFS is ideal). The guide provides detailed maps, campsite info, and safety tips for this iconic, border-defined trip.

It also contains a history of the first river trip to survey the Rio Grande in 1852.
