Michael Welsh is the author of numerous academic studies of public lands in the American West, including the administrative history of Big Bend National Park, published in 2002. His new monograph explores the cultural and diplomatic history of the park as a transborder region, including almost a century of efforts to create an “international peace park” in cooperation with Mexico. Welsh demonstrates the challenges faced and lessons learned by both the US and Mexico as they struggled against political and environmental vicissitudes in their attempts to realize the creation of a shared frontier.
